Eat On a Train, Sleep in a Caboose

Our caboose hotel in Dunsmuir also features an on-site restaurant, The Dining Car Restaurant. You can almost hear the whistle blow and the train sway as you enjoy a delicious meal prepared just for you in our galley kitchen. Can you imagine being aboard the old Southern Pacific Daylight? This restaurant is built inside restored antique railroad cars, providing a nostalgic atmosphere.

1927 Willamette Locomotive

This beauty is parked onsite and ready to be photographed. The Willamette steam locomotive was a geared locomotive of the Shay type, built by the Willamette Iron and Steel Works of Portland, Oregon. Key patents on the Shay locomotive had expired, and it was now possible for other manufacturers to produce Shay “clones.”

Live Like a True Railroader

Railroad Park Resort offers a unique lodging experience. Live the life of a railroader by staying in one of our caboose lodging units or cabins without sacrificing the comforts of today’s modern conveniences. Camp along Little Castle Creek amongst the pines in our campsites and RV hook-up sites.

We’re only two miles away from the lower Castle Crags section of the Pacific Crest Trail. You can also enjoy hiking at Castle Crags State Park that borders our property, or the renowned Mount Shasta. Railroad Park Resort is more than a railroad buff’s delight, it’s a part of our historical past.

What People Are Saying

“We loved it here…

I love that they are kind to dogs letting them stay with their parents! Everyone is so nice, and the place couldn’t be in a more beautiful setting. It is so unique it makes it that much better. The cabin was clean, cute, with just enough kitchen you can stay in to eat. If you can plan / get lucky….make your trip during the snow fall……it was AMAZING! Will be back!” — Scott via AirBnb

“Best Lodgings of the Holiday…

This was our favorite place to stay on our road trip from the UK. We thought the setting was excellent and loved our caboose-beautifully decorated and very cozy. We also had an excellent meal in the restaurant on site.” — Clancy from the UK via TripAdvisor

“Fun Caboose Resort!

Wonderful time! Caboose #1 was awesome for our family of 3. The pool was refreshing, Wifi was strong, and the resort is close to nature day hikes, and food in the town. I highly recommend this little gem.” — Sarina F via TripAdvisor

“Third visit and it never gets old!

This was our third visit and we love it every bit as much as the first time. Had fun visiting the creek and playing all the outdoor games. Always have a great night sleep in the caboose. Will definitely be back for a fourth visit! — Kimberly G via TripAdvisor

“A delightful stopover…

Stayed in #23 car and found it spacious, comfy and a complete change of pace.

We were right near the pool which was fun when I was the only person in the very clean waters in the early morn. The whole place seemed to be a 'flash to the past' with families/friends sitting about in chairs and just relaxing.” — Randy H via TripAdvisor

“This is our 12th year coming up here…

Somehow, the experience keeps getting better and better…” — Tai via Google

“So peaceful…

We have driven by this place many a times over the last 40 years and finally told ourselves it was time to try it out. We were NOT disappointed! It was so fun sleeping in the caboose with a cupola (#28)! Being a weekday it was very quiet. We lived the views of Castle Crags as well as the snow on the grin a lot of the areas. The room was clean and had a coffee pot (coffee packs provided), a microwave and small fridge. My favorite part was climbing up onto the cupola and sipping our coffee as we looked out at the stars. The room was very clean and our bed very comfortable. We had dinner at the dining car and the food was delicious. We plan to go again in warmer weather and check out more of the grounds.” — Barb via TripAdvisor
