What You Need to Know About the McCloud, CA Mushroom Festival 2018
Held every Memorial Day weekend, the McCloud, CA Mushroom Festival is an exciting 3-day celebration filled with mushroom vendors, wine tastings, live entertainment, and more. The best part? All of the festivities are just a short 30-minute drive from the Railroad Park Resort! Head to Main Street in Downtown McCloud for all of the mushrooms that you can eat and a plethora of exciting activities. Here are just a few things to look forward to at the mushroom festival in northern California!
From delicious mushroom-centered dishes to tasty desserts, you’ll find a wide variety of tasty treats to delight your palate at the McCloud, CA Mushroom Festival. This is also your chance to savor in wild edibles that you wouldn’t normally find in your typical restaurant. We encourage you to be adventurous and put your taste buds to the test with scrumptious selections prepared with locally foraged wild mushrooms. As you eat, be sure to check out the other vendors that will be in attendance including the local wine tasting stands and arts and crafts booths.
2. Mushroom Dinner
On Friday, May 25th, you’re invited to attend the popular Mushroom Dinner at the McCloud Hotel. This exquisite gourmet meal treats guests to an array of mouthwatering culinary creations prepared by professional chefs. While the menu for this year’s event has yet to be announced, past selections include black truffle souffle fritters, Mount Shasta mushroom risotto, and tender beef wellington. Tickets are $185 each and proceeds will benefit the Pacific Forest Trust. This event tends to sell out quickly, so be sure to get your tickets today!
Many of McCloud’s other local restaurants will also be offering special mushroom dishes in lieu of the festival, so be sure to explore their delicacies throughout the weekend too!
The unique collection of workshops at the McCloud, CA Mushroom Festival are designed to deepen your curiosity and love for one of McCloud’s most hidden treasures. For only $5 you’ll have access to the Black and Gold Cooking Demonstration and Herbal/Medicinal Workshop. For the ultimate experience, we also recommend participating in the Mushroom Foraging Workshop in which you’ll spend the afternoon in the flats outside of town learning about the region’s natural world and collecting your own wild mushrooms. Black and Gold Cooking Demonstration & Tasting with Todd Spanier
Led by renowned chef and founder of California Truffle Orchards LLC, Todd Spanier, this workshop offers visitors the unique opportunity to learn about two of the world’s most coveted mushrooms and how to prepare unforgettable dishes with them.
Herbal and Medicinal Workshop
Cara Saunders, founder of Bear Wallow Herbs, will help you explore native plants and locally abundant weeds that can be used as first aid remedies. From minor cuts and bruises to burns and headaches, there’s a natural remedy to heal nearly any ailment! She will also discuss natural remedies you can find in your backyard and how to use them to heal your family.
Mushroom Foraging Experience
After a 25 minute drive outside of town, visitors will spend over two hours exploring the illusive flats of California while learning about the area’s most intriguing wild delicacies. This one-of-a-kind experience also includes a taxonomy workshop, enabling participants to gather information about other wild and locally-growing plants.
